Featuring works of Monteverdi, Bach, Webern, and Cage with
new compositions and arrangements by Bradshaw Pack.
Palimpsest is a narrative in music, about music. It underlines
the idea that music is inextricable from our humanness, and that
music is the temple where people best pray and feel around for
the metaphysic.
Palimpsest takes as its framework the opening aria from
Monteverdi's 1607 opera L'Orfeo. The verses and ritornellos
of the aria serve as pillars and between them are portals into
further musical spaces, featuring works of Bach, Webern,
and Cage.
Pack's own compositions and arrangements help to mold the
narrative into a cohesive form.
The live performances of Palimpsest were recognized as
powerful and indelible concert experiences. The Vancouver
